Magmaw is a pretty straightforward fight that is dependent on the positioning of the raid. The boss is actually in the lava, so he must be attacked from the ledge. There has to be someone in melee range at all times to take damage; otherwise, he'll use Magma Spit on the ranged player who has aggro, and he'll then trigger Molten Tantrum. This stacking buff would be a guaranteed wipe. Also, the tank needs to have the boss face away from the raid since he has a nasty frontal cone lava breath. Therefore, the rest of the raid should be positioned on the other side of the room.

He also has four main abilities. The first is Lava Spew, which is a massive AoE attack on the raid. It can't be avoided, it just needs to be healed. The second ability is Ignition. This causes half of the room to be engulfed in fire. The raid should be positioned such that when this happens, they can move to the other side of the room as a group. Basically, the raid should be moving from left to right as needed.

The third main ability is Pillar of Flame. This does damage to anyone near the targeted player, leaves a patch on the ground that explodes for an insane amount of damage a few seconds later, and spawns Lava Parasites. When this happens, the entire raid should move to the other side of the room. If you're standing in the patch when it explodes, you're dead. When the adds spawn, the OT should get aggro on them quickly, and the raid needs to burn them down ASAP. These adds do Parasitic Infection, which leads to Infectious Vomit. In other words, if you get infected, you'll spawn another add. This is identical to the parasites in the Illidan encounter. This is simply another reason to burn them down immediately.

The fourth ability is more of a mechanic. He will slam his head down, and an emote will state when this happens. At this point, a few of the raid members can actually jump on his head and gain a new ability, where the player throws a chain onto a spike near the middle of the ledge. When this happens, the boss is hit with Constricting Chains. When all of the chains are down, he will be impaled on the ground with Point of Vulerability. This is the ideal time to use cooldowns to burn down a lot of his health.

This process repeats until the boss is dead.

Achievement

For the achievement, Parasite Evening, the raid has to make sure no one gets infected by a parasite. Using our current strat, this shouldn't be too difficult as long as the raid gets far away from the spawn point and burns down the adds quickly. Any types of slows such as traps, frost rings, mushrooms, etc. are highly encouraged to make sure they don't get to the raid.

This fight is COMPLETELY different because of a new mechanic. Every 30 seconds, Nefarian will cast Blazing Inferno. This is like a meteor except no one can get hit by it because it will kill you. Wherever it lands, a new add called Blazing Bone Construct spawns along with a bunch of fire. Since these adds spawn so quickly, too many on the tank is very deadly. Therefore, they need to go down fast. In fact, DPSing them is a higher priority than DPSing Magmaw (until the head is exposed). Also, standing in the fire is VERY bad because of Ignition. The trick with this add is that once it hits 20%, it'll start to cast Armageddon. This CANNOT be interrupted, and if it goes off, the raid will wipe. Therefore, all DPS need to be ready to burn it down quickly once it hits that point.

The way we handle the parasites also drastically changes. Instead of the DPS burning down the adds, we'll have someone kite them, preferably a Frost DK with Blood Presence. The video below shows how to do it.

With these changes, we'll use the following strategy: Instead of having 2 core locations for the ranged, we can actually spread out in the room. Although this randomizes where the parasites spawn, it also reduces the number of people who need to move away from the spawn point. Whenever the construct spawns, the DPS burn it down (UNLESS the exposed head is up). Whenever the parasite spawns, the kiter picks them up. Rinse and repeat.

Now, once Magmaw hits 30%, we get PHASE 2!!! Yes, Nefarian is like "WTF!!!! YOU MIGHT KILL HIM!!! I CAN'T LET THAT HAPPEN!!!!" This is when he starts bombarding the raid with Shadow Breath. Basically, the ENTIRE raid must spread out to avoid splash damage and continue the fight as normal. This becomes a burn him before the healers go oom phase.
